Hints & Tips

Use PVA adhesive, available from DIY shops. This has been found to give an excellent bond to the glossy surface, leaving the base cardboard exposed internally. This provides a pleasing and professional finish.

Use a sharp craft knife such as a Stanley 10-601

We use cardboard packaging materials for making our kits, e.g. Cereal boxes. We find this a useful way of recycling household card

Note that different cardboard packagings come in different thicknesses ranging from aproximately 0.4mm to 0.55mm. Try to choose an appropiate card thickness for model size

Glue all the printed details to the card before cutting out unless otherwise instructed

Carefully read the instructions that come with each kit before cutting & gluing

Use as sharp a craft knife as possible and cut against a steel rule

Apply PVA adhesive with a brush to large areas of card and with a sharpened matchstick/cocktail stick for fine detail

On smaller buildings when applying brick plinths either side of door openings retain the spacer across the opening until the glue has dried then carefully cut the spacer out.

Use a small carpenter's square, if available, to square the building once the walls have been glued together. Leave to dry before proceeding with the roofs and other external detail
